How to make your ice cream template

This ice cream design turns the dessert artwork into a six-panel 3D cube net. Keep the panels flat while decorating, then use the dashed folds and gray tabs to close the cube.

Intermediate beginner - about 30 minutes

Get these ready

  • *A4 printer paper or light card stock (90-120 gsm)
  • *Child-safe scissors
  • *A ruler and a blunt scoring tool, such as an empty pen cap
  • *Clear tape or double-sided tape
  • *A small amount of tissue paper or soft scrap paper for filling

What to put inside

Use one or two loose tissue scrunches before the last face is closed. Avoid overfilling, which can pull the tabs out of alignment.

What to stick with

Apply glue or short clear-tape pieces to the gray hatched tabs and fold the neighboring dessert panels over them.

  1. 1

    Print at 100%

Print the A4 ice cream cut sheet without scaling and check the six square faces.

  2. 2

    Cut the silhouette

Cut along the solid outer outline and keep all gray glue tabs attached.

  3. 3

    Decorate the flat net

Add sprinkles, a face, or your own dessert colours while the six panels are flat.

  4. 4

    Score and pre-fold

Score every dashed fold line, then pre-fold the panels and tabs to make the cube easier to close.

  5. 5

    Glue the dessert cube

Apply adhesive to the gray hatched tabs and fold the ice cream artwork into its 3D cube shape.

  6. 6

    Add light filling

Place a little tissue through the final opening, close the remaining tabs, and hold the seams until secure.

Print note: Print the A4 cut sheet at 100% scale and keep every 227 px face at the designed 6 cm size.

Finish it: Keep the brightest ice cream face toward the camera when displaying the finished cube.

Use scissors with adult help when needed. Keep filling light and dry: do not use food, liquid, rice, beads, or anything heavy inside a paper squishy.
